Ites

I've had to explain what "Ites" means several times to mom. It's a nickname for Sam's group of nine guy friends. I'm still really impressed with the strength of their friendship. They are the only group of guy friends I know that have all been friends since elementary school. They stuck together in middle school and high school. They kept in touch while away at different colleges. Even as young adults, they are still closely knit.

Internet Allowance?

Yesterday, I called Cable One with a question about my bill. No big deal. While on the phone I asked why my bill varied a little month to month.

Apparently, I had exceeded my monthly internet allowance.

"Excuse me?"

How is this even possible?
Why would you limit internet?

This is the battiest most backwards concept I have EVER heard of.
It's not measured in minutes... but gigs.
Basically every time I use The Internet Machine it counts up the gigs and charges me extra if I go over.

Why does this feel my 10th grade cell phone plan?

Hate.
Solid and Pure Hate directed at you Cable One!

My Flowers

I had a hard time getting excited about bridal flowers since my favorites, peonies, were out of season in December. The only winter flower that I like are anemones. They are beautiful but I longed for the plenitude of petals. I can't remember if I found this etsy vendor while on etsy or pinterest but I kept going back to her shop.

I loved all of her fabric flowers! They looked just how I imaged my bridal flowers. Although I had imaged them being actual flowers. I'm still a little unsure if I'll regret not having real flowers at my wedding. There will be some of tables but all of the wedding party flowers will florally crafted by Autumn Art.

The Moorehead Wedding

Check. It. Out.
Tommy and Marsha tie the knot!
Happy 32nd Anniversary to my wonderful parents!

This posting is late.
They actually got married on September 29, 1979.

I meant to post this then but kept thinking about it when I didn't have access to this picture.

Love you BOTH so MUCH!! xoxo

Engagement Pictures

Thanks Steve Johnson of LifeDance Photoprahy! We love our engagement pictures.
I wanted to post several of them on the blog but you'll have to be satisfied with two because my computer is being stubborn.

The first picture is at Railroad Park. I love that places. It's so urban with the graffiti "you are beautiful" across the street. I kind of wish we had gotten a pictures in front of that wall.

The second one is our ceremony and reception site. I loved the tiles on the steps at Gabrella Manor. It will be very hard to pick one for the announcement.

Suit Up!

Men's attire has been finalized. We went back and forth on this for months.
Sam and I agreed on suits. New Year's Eve would be a great excuse to be very formal; however, neither of us really care about tuxes.

Sam suggested just having the guys wear black suits. I liked the idea of keeping it simple and inexpensive. But when I imaged the black suits with navy ties and the bouts I ordered from etsy it just didn't work.

Three adult conversations and one bridal tantrum later (hopefully the only one) and the gray suit was finalized. I searched everywhere for a gray suit that was just the right balance between Chuck Bass and Barney Stinson.

I finally decided to go with this gray suit at Mr. Burch in Hoover. I'm pumped and I think Sam is just glad the suit talk is over.

The Etsy Stamp of Hope and Wonder

I had been on a web mission for about two weeks looking for the perfect return address stamp for our thank you notes. I found this really magical one on Etsy.

When it came in the mail this week... I was skipping into my house to open it. And then crushed that it was all wrong. I whined to Sam that it was a nightmare of a stamp. He was unsympathetic and blind to it's flaws. I was dealing with a stationary plebeian!

The most obvious error was the lack of a frame around the address.
Which had been one of the things I liked the most about it.
If that had been the only difference I would have stamped on with no regrets.

But my stamp's font was a basic san serif and to makes matters worse it was in ALL CAPS! Who shouts their return address?

But here's the kicker... my "&" had been realized with a heart glyph!

I've never had a complaint with an esty order so I didn't know how this was going to turn out. I messaged the artisan explaining that it was not want I felt I had ordered. She responded within an hour that it was a mistake. She had three orders for Abby's this week. My name and information was put on the wrong stamp. whew!

New stamp is already in the mail.

Cake Yummies

Sam, my mom, and I went to Magnificient Cakes in Birmingham today to meet with Hilde. I wasn't sure what to expect. She had so many books of really great looking cakes.

Of course, I'd been searching google and pinterest. I had a binder of my own design ideas. We ended up combining elements from some of her other cakes and the ones I had printed off line.

I am super excited about the CAKE. Here's the sketch.

The Venue

I wanted to share a picture of our venue, Gabrella Manor.
It am so very excited about it. It reminds me of Anthropologie, Great Expectations, and Art Museums. It's soooo very perfect.

Our wedding is going to be at night. I'm not sure if there will be enough light for people to really see and appreciate the ivy growing on the walls. I think it is beautiful.

a lifetime of loveliness

Recently while I was home visiting my parents, my mom and I decided it would be a great time to open up her wedding dress. She had it perserved a year after they got married. I had no idea what went into perserving a wedding gown but basically it just means there are a whole lot of boxes, bags, and tissue paper to delay your future daughter as you digs through it all to see your gown.

We had a lot of fun!
Each of the boxes had a funny saying on it.
My favorite was "a lifetime of lovliness".
"Bridal Gown Treasure Chest" was a close second.

My mom is still super skinny and exactly the same size. If I could wear her dress I think I might. It was beautiful.

Welcome to the Samby Kuhnundrum

We are recently engaged and planning our wedding for Dec. 31st 2011.

We have decided on a Library theme for our wedding because we both LOVE the atmosphere of the Library. We also spend a lot of our dating years in the library studying together.

After picking the theme we booked our venue. The whimsical Gabrella Manor. There website doesn't do it justice. If you want to love it as much as me, please click here and watch Amy & Steven's engagement video which was shot there a year ago.

Here's a little sneak peak at some of the wedding plans.

We have booked out minister! We are very excited to have Thomas George leading our ceremony. (Here is a picture of Thomas and his sweet wife, Ashley.)

I finally decided on a china pattern and finished up the registry today.
It feels GREAT to check that off the to do list. It's Vera Wang Wedgwood Gilded Weave. It's the perfect balance of artsy and traditional.

My lovely Bridesmaids have all picked out their dresses and they have been ordered from Bella Bridesmaids. I am in LOVE with the dress. I decided to let them have whatever style they preferred by designer Lula Kate. The dresses will all be night (a dark navy). I think the color is perfect for New Years Eve. I don't know the wedding party in the picture below but this will give you an idea about the dresses and the color.
